I was listening to one of my pastor's messages from Hosea in 2007 and he closed the teaching with the following. I love it and it is why this website was created.
“This Book is the mind of God, the state of man, the way of salvation, the doom of sinners, and the happiness of believers. Its doctrines are holy, its precepts are binding; its histories are true, and its decisions are immutable.
Read it to be wise, believe it to be safe, practice it to be holy. It contains light to direct you, food to support you, and comfort to cheer you. It is the traveler’s map, the pilgrim’s staff, the pilot’s compass, the soldier’s sword, and the Christian’s character.
Here paradise is restored, heaven opened, and the gates of hell disclosed. Christ is its grand subject, our good its design, and the glory of God its end. It should fill the memory, rule the heart, and guide the feet.
Read it slowly, frequently, prayerfully. It is a mine of wealth, a paradise of glory, and a river of pleasure. Follow its precepts and it will lead you to Calvary, to the empty tomb, to a resurrected life in Christ; yes, to glory itself, for eternity. --- unknown author
The Word of God is God's perfect message to you and me. If we spurn this message God has nothing more to say to us until we meet God in judgment. Wherever the Word of God is proclaimed it puts us who hear it in the place of responsibility such as we never knew before. Light shines from the Word.
If we refuse its testimony we prove that we love darkness rather than light. The Word of God contains all that is necessary to show the way of life. It reveals Christ. This was true of the Old Testament. Moses and the prophets all spake of Him. But in the New Testament we have the complete revelation of Him who has come in grace to seek and to save the lost. Those of us who believe find deliverance. Those of us who turn away will perish in our sins. --- adapted from H.A. Ironside
Family and friends say, "I would like to read the Bible, but I just don't have enough time." In fifteen minutes a day, or less, you can read the entire Bible in a year, or watch and follow along as someone else reads it. Make the time and be faithful and God will do the rest.
Despite our best efforts, most of us are strapped with responsibilities and harassed by distractions that resist our better judgment. I remember well the tyranny of the urgent, how it dogged me day and night. Regardless, everyone has waiting situations, opportunities to read on a phone, ipad, laptop, PC. My desire is to help any who want to read the Bible. I want to provide a vehicle for going through the Bible in small daily chunks that anyone with a desire ... yes, anyone with a desire can do.
Making time for God is NOT complicated. It is a decision. You WILL do what you want to do. Our Pastor, Brett Meador, says, "It's a get too, not a got too."
Over the years I have added other resources, always with the goal of taking small bites each day. Video teachings are the exception.
Some of these daily readings (Psalms, Proverbs and some Devotionals) take only a minute or two to read. The daily routine is critical. Doing the same thing every day will, mark that, WILL change your life. It is called faithfulness. The question is to what will you be faithful?
Make the most of those every day waiting situations. Faithfulness in the little will be rewarded.
If you have been with me on this website since 2006 you've noticed many changes; J. Vernon McGee reading schedule, Robert Murray M'Cheyne reading schedule, NRSV and a couple of years ago I settled on the ESV. We have always been trying to draw closer to the Lord through God's Word. 4/1/2018 God led us to Athey Creek Christian Fellowshp ... a church that believes and loves the Bible ... all of it, word for word. I still wonder about the original Biblical order of books or the Hebrew order for the Old Testament, but I am contenting myself to follow the order my Pastor uses.
